Juan Melgar, the sea and books: Two passions in one
The sea and books are my two great passions, especially since I decided to leave the field of law and turn them into my profession. When I’m not overseeing my bookshop in Madrid, I try to escape to my favourite sailing spot: Menorca and its amazing port of Mahon.
Its beauty and magnificence captivated me from the very beginning, and it’s a unique place brimming with maritime history where one never tires of sailing.
After learning in-depth about the port of Mahon and its history, the idea started taking shape of providing it with a transport service in order to connect it at different points, and what better inspiration than the old bots berguiners that had provided that service in the past.

One of the top naval engineers in Spain, Íñigo Echenique, designed and built the first two solar electric vessels for us, which are already asea, and we could not be happier with the results.
I’m convinced that this second season in the life of Els Bots Berguiners is going to be a resounding success.
