Álvaro de
la Rosa
Álvaro de la Rosa studied at the San Fernando Academy of Fine Art (Madrid) and Yale University (New Haven, CT). He began his career as a “gardener” in Mallorca more than twenty years ago and has managed to fill our lives with verdant beauty.
As a great connoisseur of the Mediterranean world, we could think of no one better to design a splendid garden for the Hotel Cristine Bedfor in Menorca. Come and discover the hotel’s crowning glory! An oasis of refined taste in the heart of historic Mahón.
Álvaro de la Rosa & Cristine Bedfor Guest House
Mahón is a city of narrow streets and small paved squares, where hard stone defines the general appearance of the public space. Therefore, I wanted to create a contrast between the exterior, the streets, and the interior, the garden. This garden is surprisingly lush and verdant, inviting visitors to revel in the vegetation, the shade and the coolness of fountains and ponds arranged in different zones.
Fruit trees are a common feature of many private courtyards in this Menorcan town, sheltered from the north winds. In this garden, a large palm tree and two old Japanese cheesewood trees awere used to structure the distribution of the new spaces. The selected plants are primarily Mediterranean species.
