Max, el Divina &
Cristine Bedfor
Max & Cristine Bedfor, two fans of Menorca’s sea onboard.
To really get to know Menorca’s sea, you have to take a boat and sail around its coastline slowly but steadily and discover coves that can only be reached by sea with those views of the island from the water.
You have to set sail in the famous, iconic Port of Mahon, go around each island with its own history and beauty, sit on the prow and enjoy things as they come, because this is the real Menorca: calmness, history, nature and beauty.
Max is awaiting us with his llaut (skiff), El Divina. A llaut is more than a boat; it’s a work of fine craftsmanship. They were traditionally made for trawl fishing and are used today to travel around the island with ease and comfort. The first ones to make these boats were called ‘mestres d´aixa’ (shore carpenters: artisans who worked to build or repair wooden vessels), and they used wood from the island. Sailing in a llaut means immediately connecting with the Balearic traditions, with that ‘poc a poc’ (slowly but surely) philosophy that prevails here. You can discover and ply the sea at 7 knots at most, enjoying everything the island has to offer with no set timetable. You can head north or south, depending on the weather and wind… it doesn’t matter. Any option is sure to be perfect.

You can swim in the warm, transparent water, go snorkelling, do a bit of paddle surfing, swim to empty beaches, hunt for seashells, watch the fish hide amidst the Neptune grass, have an appetiser, a delicious Menorcan cheese with sobrasada sausage, rest, disconnect and relax. And Max makes all this possible: sea and more sea.
You can come back in the evening at sundown and enjoy a delicious pomada to enjoy the full experience of Menorca sip by sip.
The fact is that Max loves the sea, sailing and looking for unique, quiet spots; he loves sharing his secrets and wisdom, enjoying his passengers as they enjoy him.
It’s not just about sailing; it’s much more, a complete experience which merges the desire to share everything that Menorca harbours with a warm welcome. And Christine Bedfor knows all about this! That’s why Max is one of our friends. We speak the same language, we share the same philosophy and we want you to love Menorca as much as we do.
